5 Signals that it may be time to change jobs PDF Print E-mail
Sign #1:
You’re contemplating the thought of saying, “Would you like fries with that?”
Not only are you contemplating it, but you have determined the exact number of hours you would need to work each day in order to meet your monthly bills.
Here is the formula, just in case:
($amount of bills) / hourly pay (after taxes) = the number of hours you need to work
the number of hours you need to work / number of working days in the month (usually 20) =
the number of hours you need to work per day.

Sign #2:
If you were laid off tomorrow, the only personal item to take would be yourself.
Those who are engaged, love, or are simply resigned to their jobs will have pictures of themselves, maybe the family, even their dog on their desks.  However, for those who are no longer enthralled by the idea of being a “company man [or woman], the desk is barren.  There are no personal items simply a computer, paper, pens, and various office supplies, all of which could be left at a moment’s notice.

Sign #3:
When you arrive to work, your manager announces “Dead man [or woman] walking!”
If you come to work and leave your brain at home, the challenge of the job no longer exists.  Face it, you are bored.  It is said that many executives don’t realize that when your body comes to work, a free brain comes along with it.  Imagine that!

Sign #4:
During a fire drill, neither your manager nor your co-workers check to see if you made it out.

Not only do they not check to see if you made it out, they are running out of the building and they will not tell you why.  In case this happens, just start running!

Sign #5:
When you leave for the day, you feel like you are getting paroled and you are trying to figure out why you keep getting sent back.

You are locked in for eight or more hours per day and you are trying to figure out who to give the cigarettes to today.

By the way, these warning signals are not in any particular order and this is a very light-hearted look at changing jobs.  On a more serious note, you deserve a job that challenges, stimulates, and excites you intellectually.  There are people who cannot wait until Monday morning because they are engaged and fulfilled by their jobs to the extent that it does not seem like work.  You should not be any different.  You know you have the ability, the temperament, and the skills to impact a company positively.  Why not make a change?

A quick note, recently, there was a story regarding a 2-headed snake.  If the owner sold the snake, he would net approximately $30,000.  I failed to see the excitement behind this.  I used to work with 2-headed snakes that netted at least $60,000.

Happy job hunting!
